Jesus’
Family Values
by Gary
DeVaney
Did the Bible ever
emphasize Jesus loving His brothers or sisters; His father, or mother; any woman for that matter? Many times the
Bible did say there was a disciple, whom Jesus loved. Can you explain what that was about?
In your value system,
is Jesus Christ and God "right and good" about what is "right and good" for human beings?
Matthew 5:39 Jesus said:
Resist not evil...
Would you trust
someone who would not resist evil? Wouldn't you personally prefer someone close to you and your family to resist evil
as much as he or she could? Is not resisting evil right and good for human beings?
Matthew 10:35-36 Jesus
said: I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother…and one’s enemies will be those
of his household.
WHAT? How is
Jesus' C&V model designed to be better for human beings? Isn’t Jesus supposed to be our loving, righteous, wholesome
family model? My sensitivities can not support Jesus if this is His attitude.
Matthew 10:37 Jesus said:
Whoever loves his father, mother, son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.
Haven’t egocentric,
possessive and jealous prisoners on death-row murdered in the name of what they perceived to be love? Where could
these attitudes have originated? I think Jesus' attitude is wrong for humanity.
Luke 12:49-54 Jesus said:
I have come to set the Earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing. How great is My anguish until
it is accomplished! Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the Earth? No, rather division; father against son,
mother against daughter + + +. Catholic
Was Jesus the love-model
for the Crusades, the Inquisition, Hitler, George W. Bush and some of the other major tyrants throughout history? If Satan
said these things, we could validate any anger towards him. Didn’t Jesus say them? Also, is one who wishes really
in control? Jesus does not get my vote.
Mark 13:12 Jesus
said: Brother will hand over brother to death, and the father his child; children will raise up against their parents and
put them to death.
If Jesus wants this
- I am not on His side.
Luke 14:26 Jesus said:
If anyone comes to Me without hating his father, mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters and even his own life, he
can not be My disciple.
Sniff... I am starting to feel really sad.
It is evident that believers have gone from deception to denial and now they
are in delusion to worship, promote, support and finance such a character as Jesus Christ.
Do some religions
have an ill effect on mental-health?
Luke 21:16-17 Jesus
said: You will be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives and friends and they will put some of you to death.
For Luke to be an
intelligent physician, he sure wrote some controversial things.
Matthew 23:9 Jesus
said: Call no one on Earth your father…
Why are Catholic
priests called “father”? Doesn’t that defy what Jesus said in Mathew 23:9?
John 2:3-4 When the wine
ran short, the mother of Jesus said to Him: They have no wine. Jesus said to her: Woman, how does your concern affect Me?
Catholic
Woman, what do I
have to do with thee? KJV
Jesus' arrogance
loses me.
Catholic BN: A Hebrew
expression of hostility - a denial of common interest.
Behold! This Catholic
Bible Note actually criticized Jesus comment.
Matthew 12:46-49
Someone told Jesus: Your mother and brothers are outside asking to speak to You. Jesus replied: Who is My mother? Who are
My brothers?
Jesus doesn't acknowledge
His family. Jesus rejects them. What a sad example of Jesus' family values.
In Luke 2:50 Jesus,
age 12, disappeared from His parents for 3 days with no apology.
Matthew 15:4 Jesus
said: Honor thy father and thy mother.
Although nice, this documented
statement does contradict some of Jesus’ other family values. Jesus tells you here: Do as I say - not as
I do.
Mark 16:17-18 Jesus said:
These signs will accompany those who believe in My name: They will pick up serpents with their hands and
if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. Catholic
Many "faithful" Christians
have died due to this specific Bible C&V. Would you honestly want your impressionable, trusting kids to read and
believe this C&V and then to prove their faith by actually picking up serpents with their hands or drinking any deadly
thing?
Please! Please!
Please! Do not do the snake and poison thing at home or anywhere else! Do you honestly support and promote every C&V in the Bible? How can you promote and support Jesus
Christ if He tells you to "in His name" do these things?
I Corinthians
11:3 The head of every man is Christ, the husband is the head of his wife.
I Corinthians
11:8-9 Man did not come from woman, but woman from man; nor was man created for woman, but woman for man.
Ladies, did you know that
this model of inequality is Biblical?
Matthew 11:12-14 Jesus
said: John the Baptist is Elijah Catholic / Elias KJV
John 1:21 John
the Baptist said he was not Elijah Catholic / Elias KJV.
Isn't this a Bible (John
the Baptist says one thing - Jesus claims the opposite) contradiction? How would a mind-set believer explain this?
Matthew 19:12 Jesus
said: Some are incapable of marriage because they are born so.
Proverbs 12:22 Lying
lips are an abomination to the Lord.
Robert Ingersoll: If a
man would follow, today, the teachings of the Old Testament, he would be a criminal. If he would strictly follow the teachings
of the New, he would be insane.
Please keep in mind,
I did not write the Bible. I just read it, took notes and shared them. Again, the selected passages are paraphrased.
GWD
Psalm 146:3 Put
not your trust in the son of man in whom there is no help.
Job 25:6 How much
less man, that is a maggot and the son of man, which is a worm?
Why would Jesus
call Himself The Son of Man? If Jesus is not the son of Joseph, a mere man, why is He called The Son of Man?
John 11:25-26 Jesus
said: I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in Me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes
in Me will never die. Do you believe this?
Wow! Jesus has doubt
and actually asks you if you believe His words. My answer is "no, I don't believe Jesus". Upon reflection, I view that my
values are better and less harmful to humanity than His.
Why can’t
human egos handle the idea of expiration, death, non-existence? Doesn’t almost every Christian and Muslim ego argue
for and insist on everlasting life? Isn't it mostly due to the fear of "Eternal Torment" if you don't obey what they demand
of you?
Matthew 11:28 Jesus
said: For I am meek and humble of heart; My yoke is easy and My burden light.
Jesus considers
His "yoke" to be easy - but - if you fail to fulfill Jesus' burden, you will sizzle in Hell for eternity. Isn't
it interesting that Jesus would consider that to be a "light" burden?
John 11:53-54 They
planned to kill Him. Jesus no longer walked about in public among the Jews.
Did Jesus fear and
worry about His life? Or, had Jesus, in essence, planned His suicide?
Luke 12:7 Jesus
said: Even the hairs on your head have been counted (by God.)
Yet, didn’t this same God order a census by Moses and David to
get a count of soldiers?
John 12:8 Jesus
said: You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me.
Luke 12:14 Jesus said:
Friend, who appointed Me as your judge and arbitrator? Catholic
So, is Jesus inferring
here that He is not our judge? What does this mean?
Symptomatically,
when debating the Bible, some can not or will not stay on topic, chapter and verse. Some tend to explain things with unrelated,
irrelevant, and feel-good idealism or they will preach, by intimidation, to soul-save. Some, when they are at a complete loss,
tend to fall back on faith, which often comes across to others as non-sense. For the finale, their departing shot usually
consists of a voodoo-type curse or warning. Insults and curses are sometimes used by those with the weaker debating skills.
John 12:24-26 Jesus said:
1. If a grain of wheat
dies, it produces much fruit.
When a seed or a
sperm dies, it does not produce its potential fruit. McKinsey
2. Whoever loves his life
loses it.
Apparently, self-esteem,
is not in the salvation equation.
3. Whoever hates his life
will preserve it for eternal life.
If you hate your
life, would you want something you hated preserved for eternity?
4. God will honor
whoever serves Me.
Has any tyrant ever used this sacred phrase?
Matthew 12:30 Jesus said:
Whoever is not with Me is against Me.
Hummm... Doesn't this sound
like George W. Bush?
Matthew 12:31-32
Every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven, even speaking against "The Son of Man (Jesus Christ) will be forgiven, but
whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. (Catholic)
Doesn’t Jesus
state here that forgiveness is conditional?
John 12:31-32 Jesus
said: The ruler of this world will be driven out. When I am lifted up from the Earth, I will draw everyone to Myself.
How could this be
accurate? Hasn’t Jesus already been “lifted up” and everyone is not “up” there.
Normally, doesn’t when mean “at the time”?
Luke 12:33 Jesus said:
Sell what you have and give alms… KJV
Why have many people,
who live on the streets of the world’s major cities, given away everything and become wards of the state? Could Jesus
have possibly influenced them?
John 12:35-37 Jesus
said: The light will be among you only a little while. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where he is going. After Jesus
talked, He hid from them. They did not believe Him.
Questions
some may ask themselves:
1. Do
I totally believe all that the Bible says about Jesus?
2. Have
I verified any of these chapters and verse in my Bible?
3. Is
there any reason for me to feel differently now about the Bible than I did before?
4. Are my feelings based on fear and faith or facts and knowledge?
5. Do I truly
know right from wrong, good from bad regardless of the players?
6. Could worship
be a concept of slave-mentality?
7. Do some, who
promote worship, also harbor fantasies of being worshipped?
8. Do some fear
if these facts were known, their faith would fall apart.
Personally, I don’t
care to have faith and to believe. I prefer to know. GWD
This next passage
is probably the biggest reason why some stay away from and fear taking notes on the Bible:
Revelation: 22:18-19
I warn every one who hears the words of the prophecy of this book. If any one adds to them, God will add to him the plagues
described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share
of the tree of life.
This was probably
taken from Deuteronomy 4:2. Do you think this is like a voodoo warning?
John 12:47-48 Jesus
said: If anyone hears My words and does not observe them, I do not condemn him, for I did not come to condemn the world
but to save the world.
Let’s review
Luke 12:49 & 51:
Luke 12:49 Jesus
said: I have come to set the Earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing.
Confusion is many
things, one is a time of growing; another, a time of learning.
Luke 12:51 Jesus
said: Do you think I have come to establish peace on The Earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.
Revelation 3:11
Jesus said: Behold, I come quickly. KJV
After 2,000 years?
What does Webster's say quickly means.
When questioned about
the Bible, some prove to know much about nothing.
John 13:15-18 Jesus
said: I have given you a model to follow (Noted). No slave is greater than his master. I’m not speaking to
all of you. I know those whom I have chosen.
Does Jesus model
a concept of slavery? Some preachers state they are slaves of Christ.
Matthew 13:49-50
Jesus said: The Angels will separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into a fiery furnace where there will be
wailing and grinding of teeth.
Haven’t terrorists
used God as an excuse for their heinous crimes? Have victors thanked God after killing their enemy? When someone orders us
to “have faith” are we expected to ignore any emotional response and just shut-up concerning any questions
or criticism?
Luke 14:33 Jesus said:
Everyone who does not [Renounce all his possessions Catholic / Forsake all that he has KJV] cannot be My disciple.
Mark 2:15 While Jesus
was at meal in His house… KJV
What? Jesus owned a house?
Didn't Jesus tell the rich man to sell all he owned and give to the poor? Do as I say - not as I do? Can you spell h-y-p-o-c-r-i-s-y?
Matt 15:2 Jesus
was asked: Why do Your disciples break tradition with the elders? They do not wash their hands when they eat a meal.
Matthew 15:17-20 Jesus
explained: Do you not realize that everything that enters the mouth passes through the stomach and is expelled into the latrine.
Jesus said: To eat with unwashed hands does not defile.
Maybe Jesus is talking
about unwashed “spiritual” hands. If your child refused to wash his hands and used this passage to validate his
disobedience, being a believer, what would you do?
Would you go so
far as to teach this health and hygiene lesson to your children, spiritually or otherwise?
Matthew 15:22-28 A Canaanite woman asked Jesus to heal her daughter. Jesus ignored her. His disciples asked Jesus to
send her away. Jesus replied that He was only sent to the lost sheep of Israel (The Jews?) Jesus then said: It is
not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs. She appealed to Jesus: Please Lord, even the dogs
eat the scraps that fall from their master’s table. Jesus healed her daughter.
What? Did Jesus, in Matthew 15:26-27, refer to this woman and her poor, sick daughter as "dogs"? Jesus rejected
the woman because she wasn't an Israelite / Jewish. Then, after the woman groveled like a dog, Jesus healed her daughter.
Does this documented model of Jesus require all, or at least some of us, to beg Him to save us like groveling, begging dogs?
What defines the characteristics of a name-calling racist? Weren’t Jesus’ initial comments to
her those of a stubborn, name-calling racist? How did Jesus respond to the woman before she outright begged Him? Are there
self-admitted Christians who are stubborn, name-calling racists? Does this Jesus model inspire Christian racism? I'll bet
that today if Don Imus or any on-camera politician said that to a poor woman and her sick daughter, they would be publicly
condemned to be a name-calling racists.
Luke 16:15 What
is of human-esteem is an abomination in the sight of God.
What would mental-health
experts say about this C&V?
Mark 16:18 Jesus said:
If you handle deadly serpents and drink deadly poison, you won’t be harmed.
Some controversial models
deserve a little redundancy.
In 1982,
at the beginning of this research, I asked myself: What should I do when I read something controversial, especially about
something I admit I know little about? Often the more I read and understood concerning these chapters and verses, the angrier
I got. I can’t blame others for getting angry. Although I stuck with it, I often felt sad that the Bible and its God
was the way it was.
Matthew 16:22-23
Then Peter took Jesus aside and began to rebuke Him. Jesus turned and said to Peter: Get behind Me Satan! You
are an obstacle to Me.
Webster's: To rebuke:
To address in sharp and severe disapproval; to reprimand.
Peter did all this
to Jesus? Didn’t Peter become the cornerstone of The Catholic Church?
Matthew 16:28 Jesus
said: There are some standing here who will not taste death until they see The Son of Man coming in His Own kingdom.
Are they still alive
today, somewhere? How can this be so? Explain?
Matthew 7:21 Jesus
said: Not everyone who says Lord to Me will enter Heaven but only the one who does the will of God. Many will say to
Me on that day: Lord, did we not prophesy and do good deeds in Your name? I will declare to them: I never knew you.
Depart from Me you evildoers.
Is salvation
a doing thing and not a faith thing? Wasn’t Jesus here for sinners, evildoers?
John 7:16 Jesus
said: My teaching is not My Own, but God’s. Whoever chooses to do God’s will shall know whether My teaching
is from God or whether I speak on My Own.
Didn’t Moses
also say he wasn’t responsible as he was only carrying out God’s orders? Isn’t Jesus, like Moses,
making a statement that separates Himself from being God?
Then, behold:
John 10:30 Jesus
said: I and My Father are One.
John 14:9 Jesus
said: He who has seen Me has seen The Father.
John 14:29 Jesus
said: The ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over Me.
Is Jesus referring
to Satan or to God as the ruler of this world? If Satan is coming, where has Satan been? Jesus had a conversation with Satan;
so, he must have already been on Earth - when he’s not hanging out at God’s house (Job 1:6 & 2:1). If
Satan is coming and Jesus is going, how does Satan have no power over Jesus? Am I the only one confused?
John 20:17 Jesus
said to Mary Magdalene: Stop holding on to Me for I have not yet ascended to God. I am going to My Father and your
Father, to My God and your God.
How does this depict
Jesus as being the same as, nor equal to, God? It seems that Jesus wasn’t much into a woman holding Him before or
after He was dead.
I Corinthians
12:3 No one speaking by God says Jesus is cursed. No one can say Jesus is Lord except by The Holy Spirit.
Some assume to know
the mind of God. It is their minds that often fascinate me. GWD
I Peter 3:22
Jesus Christ, who has gone to Heaven and is at the right hand of God.
Jesus can not
be God because one can not sit to the right hand of oneself. Dennis McKinsey
Some, like defense
attorneys, are not in search of the facts. They just want to win for their client. They tend to cover-up, deny facts and argue
for control rather than to debate for justice.
Faith: Heb 11:1
Faith is the substance / realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen.
To qualify, faith
has to be nonsense. To have faith is to do or allow something to take place although it does not make sense;
to blindly follow and obey without the benefit of logic, reason or rationale. If something makes sense, one does not need
faith.
Faith is the vehicle
of mindless automatons whose mission is to convert or steal the wills of others so that they too may become mindless automatons
with no will of their own. They call it soul-saving. To have faith is to be out of the decision-making business; your decisions
are made for you. Faith is acceptance, without agreement or understanding.
Faith is a slave-mentality;
the very glue of the herd-mentality. Religious people of faith, are often referred to as sheep.
To have faith is
to act on orders you don’t know to be legal or valid. Faith is to gamble on instincts or feelings when success seems
improbable. Prisons are full of believers who had faith. Their faith over-rode their self-responsibility and common sense.
Their faith directly caused their feelings to let them down. Faith is that which cannot be proven, regardless, is supposed
to be believed. To have faith in an adversary is to give up power and control to that adversary. Addicts do it all the time.
Faith: Being
dependant on hope.
A reason people
will not read, debate or consider this work is because their programming, feelings and fears overcome their common sense,
intellect and curiosity.
Some tend to express
their slightest fantasies as sacred doctrines. They tend to express their feelings as though they were sacred. They also tend
to re-invent themselves as Generals in God’s army and then condemn others for not falling in at attention to orders.
Christian conversion:
Christian believers express their love for their God in energies that change, convert, manipulate and often disrupt the lives
of others. To be Christian one must give up his or her identity, lose their natural-born life and become something they are
not, just to satisfy those committed to Christianity. They call it being saved.
On November 10th,
1770, Voltaire penned: If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent Him.
Was Voltaire just
playing catch-up or did this statement mark in history “the birth of critical thinking”?
